About Kohala High School

Kohala High School, founded in 1926, is located in the North Kohala community on the island of Hawaii. It is s a rural public high school with a service radius of approximately 40 miles and an enrollment of about 220-250 students each year. Kohala High School is part of the Kohala Complex Schools, which includes Kohala Elementary and Kohala Middle School. The three schools maintain a collaborative commitment to providing a seamless K-12 educational pathway that prepares students for college and career success. 

Kohala High School champions a powerful blend of tradition and innovation. For nearly a century, we've fostered academic excellence through project-based learning. Our unique Academy Model offers five career pathways—Natural Resources-Food Systems, Construction, Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, and Culinary—each embedding entrepreneurial skills and supported by dedicated teams and community partners. This commitment earned us the Model Academy Distinction, a first for a small school in the nation.
